TWESA is a local non-government and non-profit organization, which primarily relies on personal contributions kindly provided by our staff, assisting usually in the daily actions which go into the maintenance of TWESA. However, the complete reliance on such funds would not provide a sustainable platform for TWESA to grow and extend our impact on the Karonga district and beyond. In response to this lack of financial inflows we have introduced a number of TWESA initiatives which have been implemented to raise the necessary funds for our past and future activities, including: the utilisation of door-to-door local form fundraising; the generous donations contributed by previous and current volunteers; and, the effective cooperation with larger partners – GEFF, UNDP and Irish Aid. The use of these fundraising tools has ensured the completion of previous activities, such as the creation and installation of Cook Stoves and the establishment of the Karonga Women’s restaurant.
Currently, TWESA is working on establishing a Community Resource Center in 2020 for which the fundraising campaign
“Establishing a Community Resource Center – Shaping a brighter future for vulnerable youth and women”
is set up.
The overall objective of the Community Resource Center is to create a learning and meeting place in particular for the youth and the women but also for other interested community members. The Community Resource Center shall provide a conducive environment for sharing ideas where community members can learn from each other. For the youth it shall be also a place to conduct sporting activities which has a supportive effect on their development. The Community Resource Center shall be also a learning place where women and youth can gain various skills due to different workshops, recreation opportunities and provided information. At the same time women and youth shall create Income Generating Activities (IGA) at the Community Resource Center which shall help them to improve their economic status. At the same time TWESA can benefit from those activities to become self-sustained its non-profitwork.
The Community Resource Center shall be a long-lasting and environmental-friendly place and is therefore planned to be constructed with various recycled materials by TWESA members and other volunteers on a property that TWESA wants to buy.
